Getting started, one question at a time.
Signing in, understanding where everything lives, inviting someone, linking the phone. The answers are short and use the button names as you find them.
Signing in and inviting
How do I sign in for the first time?
Open Fallthere in the browser and, on the sign-in page, write your email and password and press Sign in. If you do not have a password yet, for example because you were invited, press Get a sign-in link by email, write the address and press Send me the link: open the link that arrives and press Sign in. A link works once: if it has expired or was already used, press Ask for a new link. Your workspace starts up as you arrive: the page “Getting your workspace ready” stays for a few seconds.
Can I get in without an invitation?
By default no: sign-ups are by invitation, and while they are closed the sign-in page says “For now you need an invitation”. They open when whoever runs the service decides so: then Create your account appears, with name, email and password, a confirmation link by email and the name of your organization. Fallthere is built and tested, and not yet open to everyone.
Is there two-step verification at sign-in?
Yes. It is an app that gives you a six-digit code, for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password. With two-step verification on, signing in needs the app code too. You turn it on from your profile: in Settings, under Account, open Profile, and at the bottom you find the two-step verification row with Turn on. Scan the picture with the app, enter the six digits and save the backup codes: they are shown only once. Whoever leads the organization can ask everyone to use it, and whoever does not have it turns it on at the next sign-in.
How do I invite someone?
From the menu at the top of the sidebar choose Invite people…, write the address and choose Member, or Guest if the organization allows guests. For a single space there is Invite to this space…, with Edits, Comments or Reads. The same things are in Settings, under Administration, People and Invite by email…; the guide explains roles and timed access.
Who can invite?
By default, whoever administers. In Settings, under Administration, General has the box Every member can invite, which extends it to all members. Whoever cannot invite is told before writing the address, and finds Ask an administrator.
What does the person I invited find?
The invitation arrives by mail from a single sender. Signing in with that address, the person sees “invites you to…” with Join and Later. Until they answer you find them in Management, with Postpone and Withdraw.
Spaces and levels
What are Private, Team, Space and Home?
They are the four levels where everything lives: Private is seen only by you, a team has a space of its own that is born with it, a space is open to whoever you choose, the Home belongs to the whole organization. Joining a team means joining its space, and leaving means leaving it. See Spaces and levels.
Where is a new page born?
You decide with the Where? question: it suggests Private first, then your teams’ spaces, the other spaces and the Home last, each with a few words on who sees it. The question is there even with a single space, so nobody finds something in the Home without having chosen it.
How do I move a page to another space?
Drag it onto the other space (with a finger, press and hold): a line shows where it lands. If other people will see it, it first says how many, and where it cannot go it answers “Not here” with the reason. As an alternative there is Move to another space… in the page’s menu.
How do I create a space?
In the sidebar, on the Spaces title, tap the “+” (New space) and give it a name. From a folder you can make one with Make it a space…: it is born with the same people as the space it was in, and what the folder contained goes inside.
What do I do if a page says “You can’t see this page”?
It may no longer exist, or whoever manages it may not have opened it to you yet. Press Ask for access: the request reaches whoever can answer, who finds it in Now.
Your day, Now and the guides
What is Your day, and when does it open?
It is the start page, the first icon of the row at the top of the sidebar: Today’s meetings, To do (your late tasks and those due today), Waiting for you and Pick up (recent pages). It opens by itself once at startup, with an empty editor: never over an open tab, never inside code. Now and Your day explains each card.
What is Now, and what happens if I say no to a proposal?
Now is where things to decide arrive: proposals from Pan and the agents, invitations to an event, requests to join a channel. Every entry has Yes, No or Look at the page, and the Open the proposals row opens Proposals, the page that gathers the proposals. With a no nothing is created and the proposal does not come back; only you see what is in Now.
Where do I decide several proposals together?
On the Proposals page, which opens from the Open the proposals row under To decide, in Now. The proposals are split by source, and each says where it comes from and what happens if you say yes. Tick the boxes, or Choose all, and use Yes to all or No to all.
What does the number on the sidebar icons mean?
It says where something is waiting for you, for example in Now, Mail or Tasks. It shows only above zero, and the numbers are real: a card that cannot read says so and does not write a zero in its place.
What is “To start”?
At the top of Now it lists the guides waiting, each with its status in words: To do, To reconnect (an expired key, a revoked access), Postponed or Done. The number next to the title says how many are waiting, and the section disappears when all are done.
Can I postpone a guide?
The ones with Later, yes: they come back in To start until they are done. Three cannot be postponed: Your name, which takes half a minute, Connect Pan to a provider and the organization’s welcome.
How do I write the welcome for newcomers?
In Settings, under Administration, open Welcome: it is a document written like a form, with the steps in the middle of the text, for everyone, a team or a role. See it as a newcomer shows a preview. Newcomers find it once, before Your day, and then in To start.
Sidebar, apps, phone and profile
How do I switch organization, or sign out?
Tap the organization’s name at the top of the sidebar: the menu lists your organizations (tap another to switch), then Teams, Invite people…, Invitations for you, New organization… (only if you can create one) and Sign out.
How do I change the icons at the top of the sidebar?
Drag an icon onto another to change the order. The “+” at the end of the row adds an app or a removed icon; to remove an icon you drag it onto the “+”, which turns into a bin while you drag, or use Remove from the row. Put back as before returns to the six defaults: the row is yours, and holds at most twelve icons.
How do I add or remove an app in the bar?
The “+” at the bottom of the bar (or Add or remove apps…, in the row’s “+”) opens The apps. Add puts an app in the bar, Remove takes it out and turns it off. Apps the organization put there for everyone cannot be removed.
What does the sidebar’s “+” create?
Document, wiki, whiteboard, folder, tables with their views, forms, events, files, imports and links. The whole list, in the product’s words, is in Starting points, and the Where? question always says where it is born.
How do I search for something, or ask Pan?
From the bar at the bottom of the window, Search, create or ask Pan… (or Ctrl+K, ⌘K on the Mac). Typing searches pages, people, your mail, messages, calls and meetings you can see. Enter never sends a question to Pan on its own, because a question is paid with your key: you pick the Ask Pan item on purpose.
How do I link the phone?
In Settings, Links, choose The phone…, then Connect a phone: name the phone and a short code appears, valid for ten minutes and once. On the phone, open the address you are shown and type the code: the app installs from that page, on the Home screen, with no store. At most five phones can be linked; Phone says what the widgets do.
Where do I change my photo, name, language and time zone?
In Settings, under Account, open Profile: Change the photo, the name, Language and Time zone, then Save. The language is the one Pan translates into for you, the time zone decides at what hour you see meetings; the email cannot be changed from there.
